Turret & Snout photos, brief report

Backyard wall projection

We started a bit too early. It did not get really dark until about 21h30. People who arrived on time were advised to get dinner. We were really grateful when they came back and put on our little show.

We did one round of Turret & Snout. Tinet’s drawings were all good. For me animation was still a bit dodgy but overall satisfactory. After we finished the story we took a break and let the audience try out the TagTool. This is equally satisfying to do as is performing. Sort of a demystifying process.

The crowd thinned out a bit but those that stayed demanded more so we did an improve set. This was fun because it was less constrained and allowed us to explore some more ideas on how to use the TagTool.

In attendance was Andreas Dzialocha who is a jazz musician (bass guitar) and TagTool enthusiast who attended the Chink Chank, a meeting that takes place at OMA international, home of the TagTool. They get together to discuss the future of live drawing. He partakes in an event here in Berlin that I did not know about where people get together and improv with music and live drawing. He really enjoyed our work and was interested in getting together.

The photos were generously taken by Hermano Silva using my camera. He and his partner were also very curious about the TagTool.

While there were not a lot of people the energy was good and Dida, who runs F.I.T. was very enthusiastic about hosting a series of nights next summer.

Turret & Snout

A wee wild piggy stumbles upon a strange object in the forest. Find out what happens next!

Technically, this is Tinet and my 2nd collaboration. I had her work with me on the Snabbeas video for GOTO80. She did the drawings of the flying pig, puppachute and sun that appear at the end. This project is a lot more involved. We will be using the open source live drawing environment TagTool. Live drawings, created and animated on the spot, will be presented using 2 projectors within and without the Freie Internationale Tankstelle located at Schwedter Str. 262, Berlin.

Projectors will be turned on at 20h00.
Beer will be served on the premises.

Last weekend Tinet and I attended a party. The main reason was to see my good friends Meneo perform. Always good to see them. Rigo in his ever radiantly in the moment self, Raul always with a lovable wasted look. The event was actually an after party for the Bread & Butter Festival. Big fashion thing. It took place in an underground venue called Villa. Very much my kind of place. Graffed walls, crumbling ceilings. The invitation noted that people should dress to be interviewed and photographed. So I could not just go to see Meneo. I had to also see if I could make myself a spectacle. And so a plan was devised. I actually don’t know why I am so surprised with the outcome.

Perfect coloring
A photo of Rigo. There is some video as well that faithfully captures the energy that Meneo put on. The room was packed.

Looks familiar
The stairwell to the second floor had some beautiful, illegible writing and the white light dots complimented them nicely.

Custom business cards cont.

For special occasions

My parents visited us. They took a tour of the major cities of the Baltic states and the last stop was Berlin. I was wondering how Berlin fit into it. According to a friend of mine Berlin was once a major ship/boat building town that was part of the sphere of the Baltic states.

Mom brought me a supply of blank business cards. I used to draw on them and give them to people. Having abandoned the drawings for now I am wondering about other approaches to this concept.

This (now past) summer I met a woman by the name of Maile Costa Colbert. She was very conscious of her ability to go on and made a suggestion that is the result of the picture above.

Mauer exhibit

Parents were taken to some of the less tourist oriented sites in Berlin by Tinet and I. Mom felt that much of Berlin was ‘a three ring circus’ and I have to admit that I agree somewhat although being that I actually live there I tend to avoid the ‘circus’ sections and try to find places that still bare the marked flavor of absence.

The large space that was once the wall of Bernauer Strasse is slowly being filled in with fancy apartment buildings. Apparently the city was once committed to not building anything on this cavity. However as the city of Berlin is in heavy debt developers are getting their way building even more exclusionary walls then the one that previously occupied this section of the city.

Hmmm

Mauer park, (Mauer is ‘wall’ in German) may suffer a similar fate. Hand outs were distributed a few weeks ago that plans exist to ‘annex’ parts of the park for housing.
